Wide open views over the fields beyond ensure this pretty, individually styled new-build garden has a great outlook to the north – although the views to the west were not so good!

Settling on a contemporary cottage garden feel, the client was keen to retain the existing sizeable terrace but establish a second seating area in the evening sunshine…

Our design incorporates a stunning green oak and steel basket triple gabion, which provides a strong focal point for the gravelled seating area opposite, that sits below a similarly chunky green oak pergola.  With Amelanchier arborea ‘Robin Hill’ flanking the slate-filled gabion wall, the views of the adjacent industrial building will soon be lost.  A slightly informal evergreen hedge defines the circular lawn area and the planting scheme makes the most of the various aspects, including scented climbers to the pergola and airy verbena weaving through the cottage garden plants that fill the borders.
