A bit of a blank canvas for this charming client, who wanted to future proof the garden with a low maintenance design, including removing the lawn. With a brief that included attracting wildlife, the completed garden included a pergola for climbers, a paved and gravelled terrace for a table and chairs and a cottage garden style planting scheme, to attract both pollinators and birds.
Heavily overlooked by neighbouring properties, the pergola and the top trellis, when fully clothed with the climbers will provide a private, sheltered area, and strategic tree planting that includes Amelanchier lamarkii and hazel will break up the view of neighbouring first floor windows. Bird boxes have been attached to the pergola and a bird bath nestled in amongst the planting.
The tucked away side garden was designed to be a productive space, with posts and straining wires installed for raspberry canes, and a bed created to house the existing blackcurrant, which is now thriving in its new location.
Budget: £10 – 15K including planting, paving, pergola
